Pho: Beef Noodle Soup

Only took 20-30 minutes to make the broth and you can use that time to prep everything else!


Ingredients

1T Chinese 5 Spice (or 1/2t Cinnamon, 1t Ginger, 2t Garlic Powder, 1/2t Cloves and 1t Fennel Seeds)

32oz Beef Broth

1lb Skirt Steak/Flank Steak

1t Soy Sauce

1 Onion

8oz Mushrooms

1/2T Basil

1/2T Cilantro

1 Lime (cut into wedges)

1 Package Bean Sprouts

1T Teriyaki Sauce

1c Cooked Noodles (Spaghetti, Angel Hair, Thin Rice Noodles)

1 jalapeño - cut into circle slices

2 green onions


Directions

  1. Add Chinese 5 Spice to a pot with beef broth. Add salt/pepper and soy sauce. Simmer for 20-30 minutes. Halfway through, add chopped onion.

  2. Choose the noodles you want to use and cook as instructed on the package. Drain and set aside.

  3. Cook mushrooms in separate pan until tender and set aside.

  4. Chop fresh herbs, lime, jalapeños and green onion.

  5. Thinly slice beef into strips

  6. Bring both back up to med-high heat.

  7. Assemble! Place all ingredients you want to use in a large bowl, including sliced raw beef. Pour hot broth over ingredients. This will cook the meat. If you’re nervous about the beef cooking you can throw some beef into the broth and watch it cook.
